France uses Open Source-based platform in the educational system for distance learning

The French Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (Ministère de l'Éducation nationale, de la Jeunesse et des Sports) has developed a platform based on Open Source software to ensure that all within the French education system have the tools necessary for distance learning. The services offered by this platform were announced as temporary, in order to respond to the current public health situation. However, the objective is to make the initiative sustainable in the long term at national level.

The platform brings together several essential and common tools for the functioning of the education system, and offers to users a platform for shared services on a national scale. The dynamics of the project are based on one of the basic principles of Open Source and give great importance to the voice of users to grow, supporting themselves in the community and encouraging their contribution, whether they are simple users or professionals of information technologies. In addition to the services available, the platform also includes a set of good practices that must be followed in order not to overload the networks.

ESOP, which already defends freedom of choice and security in the implementation of the Digital School in Portugal, has also suggested some Open Source solutions that can be used by the Portuguese education system. You can review these suggestions, here.
